Fair or Unfair!?!

Colour discrimination in India dates back to 3200-3100 BC. Lord Krishna was nicknamed Ghanshyam, where both ‘Krishna’ and ‘Shyam’ meant dark.

Today in the modern era, celebrities (Superstar shahrukh khan, John Abraham and Shahid Kapoor) endorse fairness products where they should propagate against colour discrimination being a role model of the huge population. 

Truly India has advanced in every sector- economy, women empowerment, education, science & technology but thoughts!!! When it comes to beliefs, people have stagnated mind growth to the age old orthodox thinking.

Fair complexion people are considered to be the stronger section of the society and the dark complexion and the not so dark are segmented as the weaker section of the society.

A family is still ashamed, not whether a girl or boy is born but whether a dark complexioned girl is born. Even before she opens up her eyes to the beautiful world, her parents already decide the dowry amount they have to set aside to marry (sell-off) their daughter. 

The dark skinned baby has so many nick-names to adhere to – ‘kalwa’, ‘kalutti’, ‘kali’, ‘ugly duckling’ and so on. The beautiful world is turned to be a harsh one from the view of a dark complexion person. 

Why do people fail to understand that God has made us this way! Nothing is in our hands…. Why being fair is not a taboo and why being dark is??? Why being fair is not unfair and being unfair fair???

A boy loves an ugly duckling blindly but when it comes to introduce her to his parents, why is he scared?!

Why are families not ready to accept a dark or a dusky complexioned girl as their daughter-in-law even when one of their family members is dark? This also reminds me of a great historic character Adolf Hitler. Hitler himself possessing brown hair, brown eyes and tanned complexion wanted to create a civilization of ‘Aryan’ consisting of fair complexion, blond hair and blue eyed individuals. Brown skinned people were treated as the impure race and the Aryans the pure race. 

People figure out drawbacks in other people but fail to acknowledge their own drawbacks. Hitler is the perfect example of this case. He was a hypocrite, hating his own race.

Truly, if Gods can be named ‘Krishna’ and ‘Kali’ because of their complexion, we are merely puppets created by God. 

The fair versus dark debate is never-ending and so is the growth of fairness products in the market never-ending (a share of 2500 crores as in 2011).

P.S.: People don’t judge on looks but complexion; and those who deny this are hypocrites!
